فکر سیستمی به دنبال شناخت مساله از طریق فهم روابط بین اجزای سیستم است.
فکر غیر سیستمی به دنبال شناخت مساله از طریق تمرکز بر جزییات است.
جلسه چهارم دوره «یادگیری و تفکر سیستمی در مدرسه» به معرفی مفهوم مدلهای ذهنی و مقایسه آنها با مدلهای نوشتاری، مدلهای ریاضی و مدلهای دینامیکی میپردازد.

فکر سیستمی علیت را به صورت یک فرآیند جاری می بیند و توجه دارد که نه تنها علت ها بر معلول ها اثر می گذارند، بلکه معلول ها هم بر علت هایشان به طور مستقیم یا با واسطه هایی اثر می گذارند. علاوه بر این، علت های مختلف هم بر همدیگر اثر می گذارند.
